In today’s world, it’s easy to become overwhelmed by the constant influx of fashion trends and the pressure to conform to a certain style. However, it’s important to remember that personal style is not something that can be bought or sold, rather it already exists within each and every one of us. That’s right, you heard! Even if you feel like it isn’t there, it is, waiting to be discovered like a long-buried chest of pirate’s gold.
I am Woman, hear me roar!
When we are supported in getting to know our personal style, we are able to dress in a way that is authentic to who we are. By understanding which colors, shapes, and silhouettes resonate with us and feel good on our bodies, we can make better choices when it comes to what to wear. When we are true to ourselves, we are able to radiate our unique energy and essence. We are able to communicate to the world who we are and what we stand for, without feeling like we are trying to fit into someone else’s mold.
Our core tools for personal style
When we are able to tap into our personal style, it can be truly transformative. So then, how do we uncover our personal style? At Flourish, we utilize three core tools that support long-term, personal style discovery and authentic style. These tools are Color Analysis, Style Archetyping, and Body Architecture Analysis. And when our wardrobe is cohesive and well-curated, we are able to save time and energy getting dressed in the morning, so that we can focus on the things that truly matter.
Body architecture analysis is the process of understanding the unique proportions and details of an individual’s body. It helps us to understand how certain shapes and styles will fit your body and which silhouettes will resonate with you according to your Style Archetypes. One dated misconception about understanding body architecture that we find problematic is that the goal of finding a good fit is to encourage an hourglass shape. This is deeply rooted in the sexualization of the female body, and quite frankly, we have had enough of that. Understanding your unique physical makeup allows us to decide which shapes will feel the best on you, and which will also reflect your Style Archetypes.
Archetypes of Style
Speaking of Style Archetypes, this is another one of our core tools that help us help you. The Flourish Style Archetypes were developed by Audrey, based on the work of Image Consultant Alyce Parsons. We know that there are other systems out there like the Kibbe body type system and the Kitchener style essences, which we believe can be helpful in understanding ourselves more deeply, but find that these systems can still be problematic. For instance, the Kibbe body types don’t really take different body sizes into account, and the types themselves can feel a bit limiting as there are only 5 distinct types.
What’s more, is that both of these body typing systems only take into account your physical form. While this is certainly helpful, and these body pattern correlations have been identified in order to create these systems, it doesn’t take into consideration who you are. This is where the Flourish Style Archetyping method differs. We not only look at your physical makeup, but what your personality, aspirations, and lifestyle say about you. When we compile your results, we end up with a blend of 2-3 Archetypes, which allows us to truly uncover your multifaceted self, and translate it into style.
Seasonal Color Analysis
Color analysis, our third core tool, is a powerful aspect of personal styling because it helps us to understand which colors will look best on you according to your natural skin tone, hair, and eye color. By identifying your seasonal color palette, we can learn which hues will enhance your features. Additionally, Color Analysis can help you to understand which colors you should avoid, as they may wash you out or clash with your natural coloring.
By knowing your best colors, we can make more informed decisions when shopping for clothes and accessories, which can save you time and money in the long run. Understanding the impact of color on your appearance can help to elevate your personal style, and make you feel more aligned with your true self.
Let’s eliminate the mystery of personal style
Being in alignment with ourselves and dressing authentically allows us to present ourselves to the world in a way that feels true to who we are. We know, however, that it can be difficult to navigate the world of fashion and figure out what our personal style is on our own. This is where the support of a fashion therapist/personal stylist can be incredibly valuable.
We want you to know that personal style doesn’t have to be some big, great mystery. Our approach to personal style was developed with you in mind, to help you identify limiting beliefs or negative self-talk that may be holding you back. We are here to help you navigate the often overwhelming world of fashion, and can provide guidance on how to build a wardrobe that is cohesive and expresses your unique style.
